Craftsmen of the Hida mountains built the foundation of Japanese culture—the palaces and temples of Kyoto and Nara, dating back 1300 years. Through time, their craft, forest, and community have been actively preserved by a passionate tradition of constant innovation and collaboration.
The exhibition at Japan House Los Angeles, a government-ran gallery for cultural outreach, was a direct collaboration with these craftsmen to invite the international audience for a peek into their thriving culture.
I designed infographics and motion graphics to activate the front gallery and immerse visitors into the richness of the Hida forest, as well as assisted in curating, typesetting, and liasing across cultures for LA and Hida collaborators.
